School Visit

I visited Sanders' Corner Elementary School this morning. I met with all the 4th. Grade classes and we explored readers' advisory through the online catalog.  I demonstrated on the white board while the students used laptops.
We did simple searches for books and then explored:
  • Readers Rating and Reviews (How many stars?)
  • Books in the Series
  • You Might Also Like These ...
  • Also, we learned how to see if a book is checked in and how to request a book.
Next, we explored the Kids Page -- Suggested Book Lists.  (The prominent placement of Freegal on the Kids Page provided me an opportunity to promote that service.)
After selecting the Fourth Grade list, the children clicked on a title and then applied the steps from above to see if it might be a book they would like to read.
In addition, we explored the Best Sellers List and discussed why books on these lists might be "good."

Finally, we explored eBooks. The student in the photograph was interested in  Tron Legacy.  We own the electronic version so I was able to demonstrate how to he could download the book.

While I wasn't able to demonstrate Live Homework Help (due to time), I did promote it and distribute Live Homework Help bookmarks .  All the teachers received "Your Partner in Education" and "LCPL Mobile Catalog" cards.

The students were fantastic!  Many recognized me and all said, "Thank you!" Ms. Cura is looking forward to SRP and our annual SRP Promo Visit. :-)
